As one of Sarasota’s most anticipated events, Season Four of Sarasota Season of Sculpture (SSOS) will crown Bayfront Park with a biennial display of 26 monumental sculptures.
From November 11, 2007- May 26, 2008 the fourth Invitational Exhibition brings new artists and spectacular sculptures to Sarasota’s most scenic public venue, along with seven months of exciting events to promote and celebrate the diversity of arts and culture. Season Four of Sarasota Season of Sculpture features an exciting group of sculptures selected by a selection committee made up of E. John Bullard, Director, New Orleans Museum of Art; Valerie Fletcher, Chief Curator of Modern Sculpture and Painting, Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden; Smithsonian Institution’s Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, Washington, D.C.; Jeffrey Grove, Wieland Family Curator of Modern and Contemporary Art, High Museum of Art, Atlanta, GA; Charles Kuykendall, Past Director and President, Gulf Coast Chapter of the A.I.A., and Jill Kaplan, Co-Founder and Artistic Director.
With enormous support from Donors, Corporate Sponsors and Grants, Sarasota Season of Sculpture brings not only fine works of art to the community, but also opportunities to learn more about them.
Sarasota Season of Sculpture is also working in partnership with Boys and Girls Clubs to provide educational programming during winter and spring breaks.
Docents tours providing deeper knowledge and understanding of the artists’ intents, construction methods and creative processes will be available at key times throughout the seven months.
Public lectures and opportunities to meet the artists are held throughout the Exhibition. (Events)
